Counselling for Relationship Issues

Individual online counselling for relationship difficulties — communication, trust, patterns and difficult decisions. Sessions for one person.

You do not need your partner's participation to work on a relationship. A great deal changes when one person changes how they show up.

Signs you might recognise

You do not need to identify with all of these. Even a few is reason enough to talk to someone.

The same argument on repeat with different surface topics
Walking on eggshells to avoid conflict
Feeling unheard or dismissed in conversations
Losing yourself — your friends, interests, opinions
Difficulty trusting after a breach
Anxiety when your partner is distant or slow to reply
Staying because leaving feels impossible rather than because you want to
Resentment accumulating quietly

Why this happens

Most relationship difficulties are pattern problems rather than character problems. One person pursues, the other withdraws; the pursuing intensifies, the withdrawing deepens, and both people experience themselves as reacting reasonably to the other. Attachment history shapes which role you tend to occupy under stress. Because the pattern needs both parts to continue, meaningful change is genuinely possible from one side.

How therapy helps

What the work actually involves, session by session.

1

Seeing your pattern

We map the cycle — the trigger, your move, their move, the aftermath — until it becomes predictable rather than bewildering.

2

Understanding your attachment style

Why you get anxious at silence, or need distance under pressure, usually makes sense once traced to its origins.

3

Communicating the need, not the complaint

Practising the specific conversations you have been avoiding, in session, before having them for real.

4

Clarity on staying or leaving

Therapy will not make this decision for you. It will help you make it deliberately rather than by exhaustion.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer couples therapy?
Insights Wellbeing currently offers individual therapy, so sessions are for one person. Individual relationship work is well-evidenced and often the most practical option when a partner is unwilling to attend.
Will therapy tell me to leave my relationship?
No. Your therapist's role is not to direct that decision but to help you see the relationship clearly and act in line with your own values.
Can I come if my partner doesn't know?
Yes, and this is common. Sessions are confidential.
What if the relationship is abusive?
If there is control, coercion or violence, safety comes before relationship work. Your therapist will discuss this directly and can point you to specialist support and helplines.
If you are in crisis, please reach out now.
