Specific phobias respond exceptionally well to exposure therapy. Online treatment for fear of flying, heights, needles, driving and more.
You do not need to identify with all of these. Even a few is reason enough to talk to someone.
A phobia is a learned association that was never updated. At some point — sometimes through a direct experience, sometimes through observation — the brain tagged something as dangerous. Every subsequent avoidance confirms the tag, because you never get the corrective experience of nothing bad happening. Exposure therapy provides that corrective experience deliberately, in graded steps, which is why it works so reliably: it targets the exact mechanism keeping the fear in place.
What the work actually involves, session by session.
We list situations from mildly uncomfortable to highly distressing, and work upwards in order. You are never dropped in at the top.
Each step is repeated until anxiety falls naturally. You move up only when the current step is genuinely manageable.
Gripping the armrest, closing your eyes, distracting yourself — these preserve the fear by preventing full learning.
Practice across contexts so the learning generalises rather than staying tied to the therapy setting.
