Therapy for Social Anxiety

Online counselling for social anxiety and fear of judgement. Practical CBT-based support to speak up, socialise and stop rehearsing every interaction.

Social anxiety isn't shyness. It is the exhausting conviction that you are being evaluated and found wanting — in meetings, at gatherings, in ordinary conversation.

Signs you might recognise

You do not need to identify with all of these. Even a few is reason enough to talk to someone.

Rehearsing sentences before saying them out loud
Replaying conversations for hours afterwards, hunting for mistakes
Blushing, sweating or shaking that you're certain everyone notices
Staying silent in meetings despite having something to say
Declining invitations and then feeling isolated
Avoiding eating, writing or speaking while being watched
Excessive apologising
Using alcohol to manage social situations

Why this happens

Social anxiety runs on a prediction: that you will be judged negatively, and that the consequences will be serious. To manage that risk you shift attention inward, monitoring how you're coming across. Ironically, self-monitoring makes you less present and more awkward, which appears to confirm the prediction. In collectivist family and workplace cultures where reputation carries real weight, the fear is often reinforced rather than challenged.

How therapy helps

What the work actually involves, session by session.

1

Shifting attention outward

We train attention away from self-monitoring and back onto the conversation. This single change often produces a noticeable difference within weeks.

2

Testing the predictions

Behavioural experiments — deliberately making a small mistake and observing what actually happens — are far more convincing than reassurance.

3

Video and role-play feedback

Most clients discover the gap between how they think they came across and how they actually did. That gap is the treatment.

4

Graded social exposure

We build a ladder from manageable to daunting, at your pace, so your world expands rather than contracting.

Frequently asked questions

Is social anxiety just an introverted personality?
No. Introversion is a preference for lower stimulation and costs you nothing. Social anxiety involves fear, avoidance and distress, and it narrows your life. Introverts can have rich social lives; social anxiety prevents them.
Can online therapy work when my problem is talking to people?
It works well. Video sessions are often an easier starting point, and the skills transfer. Your therapist can also do live in-session practice and structured exposure homework.
Will therapy make me an extrovert?
No, and that isn't the aim. The goal is that social situations stop being governed by fear, so you can choose how much socialising you actually want.
Does this help with public speaking and presentations at work?
Yes — performance-specific anxiety responds particularly well, and this is a common reason professionals start therapy.
